PinFin (Pakistanis in Finland) is a community driven platform dedicated to connecting, supporting, and empowering
Pakistanis living across Finland. Since 2002, we have worked to connect people and celebrate our cultural identity while helping our
community better integrate and thrive in our adopted home Finland.
PinFin began as a small community of Pakistani students in Helsinki. Over the years, it has grown into a nationwide
community network spanning Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Tampere, Turku, Oulu, and beyond.
From cultural celebrations to student support, from networking events to family gatherings, PinFin is the nucleus
for Pakistanis seeking connection, belonging, and cultural continuity in Finland.
Our Story
The Quiet Beginning
PinFin began as a humble personal blog at the dawn of the new millennium,
in the winter of 1999, amid the snow-covered calm of Kuopio. It was created to guide and support Pakistanis taking
their first steps in Finland, answering practical questions and easing the uncertainty of a new beginning.
The First Digital Home for Pakistanis in Finland
As more people arrived, questions turned into conversations. Around 2002, PinFin grew into a nationwide network using Yahoo Groups, one of the most popular platforms of that era. For many years, pinfin@yahoogroups.com was the first, and often the only place where Pakistanis across Finland could find answers, reassurance, and one another. Volunteers welcomed newcomers, helped them find their footing, and offered support during moments of uncertainty, gradually turning strangers into a community.
From Online Network to Real-World Connections
With time, PinFin evolved beyond the digital space and into real-world engagement. The network was reborn on Facebook, where community events became the heart of its activities. To avoid bureaucracy and politics, PinFin adopted a flat and informal structure, run entirely by volunteers, without titles or official roles.
A Platform for New Talent
Each event was entrusted to a new team, creating space for fresh ideas and giving newcomers an equal opportunity to contribute. This approach brought new talent to the forefront and kept the community dynamic. PinFin’s guiding belief has been simple: meaningful change comes from people willing to work selflessly, without seeking titles or recognition. For nearly a decade, the focus remained firmly on community work rather than visibility or credit.
Celebrating Culture, Identity & Unity
Through cultural celebrations, community gatherings, and awareness initiatives, PinFin has created spaces where people can honor their roots while building a confident sense of belonging in Finland. The network has consistently brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds, viewpoints, and experiences, uniting them around shared values and a common purpose.

Today, PinFin is a registered association in Finland and a community of equals. It is built on mutual respect, acceptance, and the belief that we grow stronger by supporting one another. PinFin describes itself as a “Curious Community” because curiosity leads to learning, understanding, and acceptance. Open and inclusive by nature, PinFin is driven by a sense of responsibility toward its members and the wider society. Its mission is to strengthen belonging, encourage participation, and support meaningful integration by creating spaces for learning, dialogue, wellbeing, and collaboration.

By working across communities and engaging with Finnish institutions and leadership, PinFin strives to build bridges of understanding. The goal is simple yet powerful: to help immigrants feel at home while enabling them to contribute positively to Finland—the country we now call home.
Our Mission

14th August Independence Day gatherings, networking opportunities, and support programs.
